Introducing: Common Good Strategies

Who We Are and Why We Founded Common Good
Our journey started in public service—driven by a shared passion for uplifting communities, supporting the most vulnerable, and creating opportunities for all. Over a decade, we worked in government; shaping policy, building programs, and forging connections that made a difference. But as time went on, we encountered a growing tension: the gap between rising public needs and shrinking resources. This imbalance eroded trust and politicized the very idea of the common good.
At the same time, living and working in the heart of innovation hubs like San Francisco, Seattle, New York, and Los Angeles, we saw the transformative potential of the private sector. Companies were pioneering innovations that could address some of society’s biggest challenges. Yet, it became clear that these two worlds—public and private—rarely spoke the same language. Opportunities for collaboration were often missed, leaving untapped potential on the table. We went on to work for some of these companies; helping them navigate government, foster collaboration, and build impactful things together. But we know the gap between the public and private sectors continues to widen as societal challenges emerge.
We founded Common Good Strategies to bridge this gap. We believe that progress requires collaboration between sectors. Neither disruption alone nor regulation alone can solve today’s challenges. It takes a virtuous cycle of good governance, thoughtful innovation, equitable access, and a renewed sense of public trust.
Our mission is simple but ambitious: unlock the public and private sectors' superpowers in service of the common good.
Why Now? The Importance of State and Local Government Collaboration
Across the country, state and local governments are leading the way in delivering real, measurable progress. While national politics feels consumed by chaos and confusion, cities and states are taking action—funding essential infrastructure, advancing clean energy, improving transportation, and investing in public services.
Recent elections underscored this momentum:
✔️ Over $18 billion approved for climate and conservation initiatives
✔️ $25 billion dedicated to public transportation projects
✔️ Widespread support for affordable housing, education, afterschool programs, public infrastructure, and parks—across both blue and red states
Meanwhile, industries in the govtech, civictech, next generation mobility, smart build, and clean energy space are evolving rapidly, creating new opportunities to reimagine how communities function. With real partnership and collaboration, we can accelerate these efforts and turn big ideas into tangible, lasting outcomes.
Building the Future—Together
No single sector can solve today’s challenges alone. The public sector plays a critical role in shaping markets, making long-term investments, and ensuring equitable access to solutions. The private sector brings agility, innovation, and scalability. The strongest, most enduring progress happens when these forces work in sync.
History proves this point. From space exploration to life-saving medicines to the internet itself, government investment and policy have been the catalysts for major technological and societal leaps. Today, we have a similar opportunity: by working hand-in-hand, government and business can drive the next wave of transformative progress.
At Common Good Strategies, we help bridge that connection—aligning public and private efforts to create impact where it matters most. The moment for action is now, and the greatest opportunities for transformation exist at the state and local levels. This is where the future is being built.
